The New Home of George Soules Photography
See that little yellow arrow in the wide image below? That’s where we live now! I snapped this panorama with my iPhone 5S near the peak of Mansell Mountain. I can see this area of open granite from my home office window, and it can see our house in Southwest Harbor. The body of water in the foreground is the southern end of Long Pond. The other images (all shot with iPhones except for Janice
National Bank of Middlebury
The National Bank of Middlebury hired me to photograph each of the five Vermont towns where the bank has a branch. Janice and I had fun traveling around central Vermont photographing iconic buildings and landmarks that were representative of each town. Large versions of the posters below now hang in each office.
Church Street, Burlington Vermont
Yesterday I went to Burlington, Vermont and hung out on Church Street. The purpose of the visit was to try the Fuji X-E1 camera that my friend Werner and I rented. I wanted to see how well it would work for street photography. Below are some of the images I shot to test out the camera, see what it was like to use, and find out what kind of images I could get from it.
Walk Around Lens for New York City
New York is so nice they had to name it twice (so says Nina Hagen). I love walking around in New York City. Everywhere you go there’s something interesting to see. And photograph. For a trip to Manhattan last month, I took just one walk around lens. The large image below and the other interior shots are of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). I like to imagine that the women with red hair is
Golden Hour in New York City
In photography, the golden hour (sometimes known as magic hour) is the first and last hour of sunlight during the day when a specific photographic effect is achieved due to the quality of the light [wikipedia]. Last month I had opportunities to shoot at both dusk and dawn in New York City. Most of us are already awake at dusk, but getting those early morning shots of the first light requires
Burlington Actress, Alyssa
Last January we had the pleasure of photographing the lovely and talented Alyssa Talbot, a Burlington, Vermont actress. We shot these images in our studio on a cold and snowy winter’s day and had a lot of fun in the process. The 9-Up image at lower left demonstrates the result of an exercise we sometimes do to help people loosen up. Janice will say an emotion like “sad” and the subject
Real Estate Photography
Here are samples of residential real estate photography used by realtors and builders. We shot these earlier this month at a residence in Underhill, Vermont that was about to go on the market. Less than two weeks later, we received this note from the owner:
Hi George and Janice, — I’m still in shock. The story is the realtor showed our photos to a couple who fell in love
Franciscans
The Franciscans Project
During the month of November 2011 I shot portraits of 35 brothers and sisters from the Church of the Crucified One in Moretown, Vermont. This is a group of laymen and laywomen who have assembled together to take vows modeled after the Third Order of Franciscans.
The purpose of the project was to capture images of this diverse group of people and
Portraits of Hurricane Irene
On August 28, 2011 the flood waters of Hurricane Irene swept through the tiny village of Moretown, Vermont leaving a wake of destruction. I had the privilege of photographing many of the volunteers who came to help with the cleanup effort. Here are some of my favorite portraits.
