Acadia from Dusk to Dawn

Since moving to Mount Desert Island in September, I have seen some spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Last Saturday November 2, Janice and I went out on one last kayak trip for the season. We chose Seal Cove Pond and what a lucky choice it was. We got on the water about 4:30 PM and an hour later the sky started changing colors and patterns every few minutes. And then it was dark. The following night, I went out with the MDI Photo Club and learned to photograph stars from my new friend and very talented photographer Howie Motenko. The large photo below is of Jordan Pond and the other star image is Otter Cliffs. The last image is the one dawn shot in this set. I took it with my phone at the reversing falls in Norwood Cove. I used the Canon S90 for all the sunset shots (the one camera I'll risk in a kayak), and shot with the old Canon 5DMK2 for the night sky images using a 30 second exposure and ISO 6400 at f/4.0. Did I mention that we shot Jordan Pond at 10:30 PM in 30 degree temperatures with a stiff breeze blowing? Man, it was cold, but oh so much fun.
